You should place links to your newest and best content in the places a user is most likely to look in their daily workflow. It is no surprise that newspapers are delivered to the doorstep, instead of requiring readers to stop by the printing plant.

Popular doorways are:

  • Homepage
  • Portals

However, these are far from the only ways people move from site to site or jump directly to your site. I would recommend every web producer to keep a doorway diary for a full week. Use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of how you went from site to site on the internet. Once you know your own personal doorways, you'll be closer to knowing those of your users.
